Waterproof, slip-resistant and insulated, this boot is winter's worst nightmare. The Bates GX-8 GTX SZ IN is designed to guard against the elements while keeping feet toasty and protected. It incorporates a removable cushioned insert for optimal, long-lasting comfort and a GORE-TEX lining to keep water out while circulating air for maximum breathability. No need to fear wet, slippery environments thanks to 200 grams of Thinsulate insulation that traps heat within the cushioned interior. The ballistic nylon upper can handle any climate and keep feet protected in hazardous conditions, while the slip-resistant rubber outsole provides traction on the roughest surfaces and most uneven terrains.

I'm a fan of Bates boots, they fit my fat feet well as long as I order the wide option. Seems true to size as I wear a 12 in just about any boot. They came within the normal shipping period and fit right out of the box. I'm in and out of the ambulance for 24 hour shifts and didn't get any blisters or cramps. The insulation is warm enough to stand around at scenes and the waterproofing is great. They do tend to get hot while sitting in the rig because they don't breathe but I got them for winter scenes anyway, so all is good.

The boot is well constructed. It fits well, of course there has to be a breakin
period because of the leather. I have walked in them several times and they appear
to be all that the manufacture claims that they are. I haven't been in water as of yet to test out the waterproof aspect of the boot. These boots are not heavy when walking, in fact they are light. I believe they will be a good hiking
boot that I was looking for.

I'm using these primarily as a motorcycle boot. Since I ride year round in most weather conditions, I was looking for water proof insulated boots. These fit true to size and are comfortable right out of the box. Relatively light weight, easy to customize the snugness/support with the laces. The only question remaining is durability.

Ordered this for my son for Christmas. The boots were exactly as shown and described. Very high quality he really liked them and tried them on immediately. He does a lot of shooting at an outside range year round. Loved the ease of ordering and the customer I received and they arrived on time as expected. Top Notch Product!

I bought these boots and was impressed with the comfort right out of the box and they fit well. However after about 7 months of wear, the comfort under the foot started to wear a bit. After about 2 years of wearing, the stitching broke loose on the back of one of the boots about 2 inches wide on the heel cup. (I'm guessing from trying to slide the foot in in a hurry.) The zippers started to come unstitched as well and the laces started to come undone. If you rotate them with a different pair they may be better but have a hard time holding up to heel strikes on concrete working in a prison.

Even with a side zipper, their still a little challenging to take on and off. I'm not sure why - I have a pair of 5.11's with out a side zip and they also have eyelets all the way up and they are much easier to put on. So far I'm pleased with the quality and price.

I ordered a size XXL for width, and though the box said it was XXL they were mediums. :( Customer service emailed me a prepaid return slip, I stopped by STAPLES,(it's a UPS center) handed them the box and label and I was done! New ones shipped out and their perfect! Like any new boot the heel is stiff. If I had one con it would be that the laces really should be longer to accommodate the width.4 stars cause lets admit a mistake is a mistake but what a great save from the customer service dept.

I work out doors as a transit road supervisor. I'm involved with the day to day bus schedules no matter what the weather is. These boots have kept me available on the cold and rainy days as well as the snow days.

I have worked in corrections for nearly 20 years and have owned five pairs of these boots.Really comfortable, light, durable, waterproof and not to mention metal detector friendly.I usually get almost 3 years of wear out of each pair and then another two years or more wear out of each pair working around in the yard.I am getting ready to buy pair number six soon.LOVE THEM.

On my second pair of these boots. First pair are still serviceable, but the soles are wearing thin. They've lasted almost 5yrs. I'm hoping these replacements last an additional 5.
