Men's Salomon Speed Assault Boots Tactical Reviews, Deals, Problems and Guides

So I had written a long follow-up review on my iPhone that I accidentally lost.

In short. The Speed Assaults are holding up EXTREMELY well. Every benefit mentioned in my first review is spot on, but now I can say almost 2 years into ownership they are still in great shape.

Without a doubt I will buy another pair when these finally wear out. The chevron grips on the soles are still in really good shape and highly serviceable.

Caveat, I wear them in an urban environment, with occasional range trips. They hold up well outdoors in my experience even on dealing wth caliche clay. Caliche clay turns your shoes into something that resembles a snowshoe or Big Foot’s “big foot”. Went to the range yesterday (aka the pasture) and when I cleaned the mud and clay off my boots I found a 7.62x51 casing and two 5.56 casings. Yet my boots hold up. I still appreciate how quickly they dry out and my dawgs love them after a day of running through airports with my 25lb pack. (I carry a lot of stuff) granted it’s not a 90lb ruck, but they still keep my knees from screaming at me. So I have not worn these scrambling across scree on a mountain, so I can’t speak to how they would perform or hold up in hat AO, but I would probably wear my 4D GTX’s for that anyway. I’m just very, very pleased with this boot.

I will definitely buy Speed Assaults again, whenever the ones I own wear out.

These are my third pair of Saloman's. My first pair (That I still have a wear.) Are the Salomon Forces GTX 4D. They are the best pair of tactical boots I have ever worn. I have a pair of Salomon Lightweight Jungle Boots also.
These are a much different shoe than the 4D's and Jungle Boots. For one, these are much lighter. The 4D's are super heavy, but heavier than That this boot and my jungle boots. As far as comfort, so far the Speed Assaults beat both my 4D's and LWJB's. The area around the ankle is really different though. It's a soft flexible foam type material that cups around your ankle. So far so good on that. One thing these boots do not have, that my other two Salomon's have and something I like on all my bots is a pull loop on the back of the boot, to put your finger in when pulling the boot on when you need to get the boots on quick-fast. As others have noted, I cannot speak to the durability, however Salomon's have always been a durable boot, even when worn in less than friendly areas.
I highly recommend this boot with the caveat that I don't yet know how durable it will be. It is one of the most comfortable mids I've worn. As a note, it does run a hair small. You might want to 1/2 size up. In fact I wish I did, but they are out of stock, and it's not too small, but if I could order again, I'd order 1/2 size up.

I really like the Speed Assault shoe/boots so much I bought a second pair. They are incredibly light and the soft cushioning on the ankle in the rear make them super comfortable. I love the lacing system on them and once you get the hang of it, tightening and stuffing the excess into the pouch on the tongue is quick and easy. Once done, you don't have to worry about them coming untied or loosening up. The reason I only gave them 4 stars is because as comfortable as they are, they still require some break in. Getting the tightness just right can be tricky. My pair are super comfortable but after wearing them to work all day (about 9 hours) I was a bit sore on the side of my foot at the joint for my big toe (called the inner big toe mound). That particular spot seems to hit exactly under the hard sewn in part of the forward most lace "anchor" on the shoe. I'm hoping the shoes eventually form to my feet as they break in and this may no longer be an issue. I did read in another review somewhere that it takes a while for them to "mold" to your feet for the best fit. If it wasn't for that issue, I would have rated these with a 5 star rating. Definitely recommend them though as they are light, and very cool; both temperature wise and in looks!

Thought it would be a great product but after the 2nd time wearing them, the right boot stated to separate at the seams around the front and side. Shame really, because other than that, they appear to be a good lightweight boot.

I own the brown model and really like them so bought the green pair. They are really light and feel like slippers. The lacing system is great once you get the hang of it. The only thing I don't like is, for me anyway, it is taking a while to break them in. On both pairs the bottom, inner, shoe lace attachments hit right on the bone of my big toe. After a few hours the bone gets really sore. It is getting better as I wear them as the material is starting to stretch to my foot. Hoping soon they will fit well enough to wear all day without the pain. May not be a problem for others as everyone's feet are made a little different, but for me, that big toe bump is right below that lace attachment and it hurts.

Excellent shoe! Very lightweight an breathable. This is my first pair of Salomons and I am very pleased with the quality. The quick-lace is very nice and they are comfortable on the asphalt and do very well on the trail. I bought these in 10.5 and they were just a bit narrow when I first put them on, but not bad enough for me to send back. They fit perfectly now that I have broken them in.

Well built and super comfortable. The lightest mids out there. Considering the material the upper is made of lots of ankle and footbed support. Was skeptical about the thin lacing system but thus far has held up without issue. Breathes well, easy to clean and no foot fatigue after prolonged wear. New go to for me.

Shoes are a perfect fit if u have a narrow foot. I have been wearing nothing but Salomon shoes for the last 15 years. They have a 2 year warranty against material defects. I have only 1 pair of shoes that came apart within 6 months of owning them.. They were easy to deal with, make sure if u buy them to keep your receipt. Average life span I have gotten out of there shoes is about 3.5 years, considering I'm a avid outdoorsman in North Western montana, include scaling mountain sides with backpack on my back. Comfort of scaling across lose materials at steep angles there tread design is great and shoe design keep your feet from getting tore up. I can't really say much for any other shoes that I have run, usually most other name brand I have tore there shoes up within six months of owning them. I will say from the middle east to the mountains of Montana I would not chose any others brand of shoe.

I've purchased the Salomon XA Forces Mid GTX Boots previously in a 10.5 and they are a great fit for me. Given that the Salomon Speed Assault Boots were the same manufacturer, I assumed the fit would be virtually the same. Not so much! They are unusually narrow and really pinched the foot. They were the usual high quality construction that Solomon has, but I was not able to get past the improper fit. One option was to go a size bigger to get some additional width, but then the length would likely be excessive. Instead, I returned these and took another route. This site was great to work with for a resolution.

I love Salomon shoes. They are comfort right out of the box. No break in period. True to size. Light weight and fast drying. The durability is a hug plus.
The only downfall is the lace garage is hard to tuck the laces into, due to where the tongue sits, the laces overlap.
