Men's TRU-SPEC 24-7 Series Xpedition Pants Tactical Reviews, Deals, Problems and Guides

I purchased three black pairs and one coyote pair a couple of months ago for my job as a technologies technician.
They work great because I squat a lot and they have a good amount of flex to them in the knees and hips/waist.
They have a good amount of pockets for me to store tools or parts in if needed, but don't add a lot of bulkiness.
But by far my favorite feature is the side vent zippers. There are there are times where I will be working up on a ladder and if the breeze is just right I can feel it go in one leg vent and out the other-such a great feeling on these hot humid days!
Definitely worth the investment for me and I may even get one more pair for the work week. So far I haven't found any downsides to them.

I am 5'10'' at 210lbs
I wear these for my daily field work in 90-100F weather and these are a few things I have noticed

Xpedition pants
Pros :
1. better breathability
2. allow better range of motions
3. slim fit instead of baggy cargo pants look
4. top quality zippers


Cons
1. tighter near the outer hip area and grouch area...this is where 5.11 taclite does better
2. smaller zipper which makes it more difficult for #1
3.quality of the belt loops is lacking
4. going to show the size of your junk when you sit down due to the mash material...that is if you care

Sitting in the back of an armored vehicle in the middle of summer, I look over to my teammate who doesn’t seem fazed by the fact that our A/C hasn’t worked in about a decade. As sweat pours down my legs into my boots I notice his pants. They look just like our uniform pants, but more comfortable, with a better fit and stretch. Then I see the vents...

Clever girl...

I immediately ask about the pants, and am directed to these TruSpec Xpeditions.

I’m checking out within minutes. Shipping always gets you but it’s worth it.

My first day wearing the pants is 95° with about 80% humidity. With a flair for the dramatic, I wait. I wait until my legs feel the warmth, the natural oven that has been my home for the past month and a half. Then I pop the vents.

An immediate chill flows through my body. But I’m not scared, not like when there’s a ghost in the room. No, this is more like God himself blowing a cool breeze on my legs. I know now that these are my summer tactical pants. In a way, they’ve always been my summer tactical pants. But in a more literal way, they are now the pants I’m going to wear to work in the summer.

They stretch EXACTLY where they need to stretch. They fit perfectly. I can climb over gear without ripping anything.

However, all this comfort does come at a price. Having vents means not having as many pockets as I’m used to. No pockets near the ankles, and only two cargo pockets that are situated on the front of the leg (so no smaller front leg pockets).

I lament the loss of pockets. I have lots of stuff.

And the knee pad pockets have like ZERO retention. All it is is a slit that’s a little smaller than the knee pad pocket itself, so you fold the knee pad and slide it in. I mean there’s no Velcro, there’s not even a flap. Can I get a FLAP?! I’ve tried Crye knee pads and the 5.11’s that look exactly like Tru Spec’s own knee pads. They’re gonna keep poking out the bottom and you’ll be lucky to even still have them after a mission.

Like seriously, NO retention?! Minus 1 star.

So far so good, 2nd pair I have bought , putting them thru the test to see how they hold up! Venting on legs comes in handy, comfort waist accommodates movement, the breathable panels help on hot days and dry quickly. Zipper seams to be short on both pair, I own more than one other pair of Tr-Spec pants and there zipper is fine. Otherwise worth the money, especially compared to some big brand names.

First things first, the pockets are not your average or normal pockets. They require getting used to, but once you do, they are great. These pants have a stretchy waist band that may affect the slimmer waisted individuals because there may be excess fabric. For us "huskier" individuals, the pants will fit and feel great. They feel like brand new BDU's with the exception of newly placed cargo pockets. The zippered sides allow for ventilation during walks, rucks, runs, or hikes. The magazine pocket may need getting used to as well if you're intending on using for tactical purposes. The buttoned boot cuts allow for standard boot cut wear or an inch to two inch reduction allowing a more tapered fit. I've been on a couple of distance walks and they ventilate very well without unzipping the sides. They are probably my favorite pairs of pants I have owned. Also note, I've mentioned before in another post, I wear 32x30 pants, but I measure 36-37" around my waist. This is the glamorizing or pant sizing to retain our ego's. Just keep that in mind when purchasing your size. You may wear 32 pants but you may not be a 32. We tend to wear what we've been wearing for decades.

These are one of the best pants I have ever owned. Very well thought out, fantastic construction. They ventilate extremely well. The pockets being on the front of the pant leg is a much better design than traditional side pockets on BDUs. The cut provides a lot of comfort while still looking good, they are not baggy at all. I highly recommend this product.

A pleasure to write this review because these pants are really darn awesome! It seems like a much thought, planning and research went into making these pants. The fit is my usual size. I'm 6'2",175lbs and wear a 32x34. Ordered my normal size and it's almost as if these pants were made for me specifically ha! The material is light but durable. The placement and use of the "stretch material" areas are so awesome. You can feel them 'working' as your body maneuvers into positions such as crouching and kneeling. The zippers....oh my, the zippers! So great. Some of the pockets secure doubly with velcro and a zipper, which is awesome for small but important items. The zippers on the legs of the pants are superb. One high on the outer thigh area of each side, adjacent to the thigh cargo pockets and one low at the cuff end on each side on the outside of the leg/ankle area. The zippers at the low side make it nice for giving more room to cover the rise of a tall boot if you like wearing your pants not tucked into your boot. The upper zippers, they alow this heavenly air flow throughout the pants. When all four of these zippers are open, these pants breathe extremely well!!! And the zippers are not open to expose skin, behind each zipper is a magical lightweight stretch fabric. These pants also resist moisture extremely well. Got a pair in navy blue and a pair in coyote. Both look so great! Ordered a third pair in the green/green. (I don't care for the look of the two-tone paneling on some of the color options..the solid colors look much nicer to me).
These pants are slightly expensive but as the saying goes....you get what you pay for. These pants are worth every penny of their cost. You will not be disappointed. Go for it. You'll see.

I was recommended these pants by a friend. I’ve always had issues with being too warm so I was interested how these would feel. I’ve been using them for over a month now and I have no complaints and the pants still look brand new. The crotch is super comfortable and allows air flow so unlike other pants it doesn’t trap heat in. And the vents provide unprecedented air flow. It honestly feel like I’m wearing shorts.

Since having these pants we’ve been to a few fires so I’ve gotten to see how they feel under turnouts and they are amazing. The pockets on the front make getting into turnout pants fast and with very little catching like traditional cargo pockets. No tearing, no spots that heat up, and if you have the vents open it’s extremely comfortable.

I bought two navy blue pants for duty wear so far and I bought a Tan set of pants for everyday wear.

I will never buy a different type of pants ever again!

The pants have more of a sheen than expected, that hopefully fades with wear. The stitching thoroughout is well done with deep pockets. The waist perfect, seat of the pants uncomfortably snug. The pants have been worn once and may take several wears to get used to. I wouldn’t buy again based on the first trial. Happy to review again in a few weeks.

Overall, I love these pants. All the well thought-out features are great. Pocket position and closures, knife/light clip-on sections of the hand pockets and the waist adjustments.
The one flaw are the knee pads pockets. The opening is a massive 4.5" wide. The Tru-Spec knee pads are 4.5-5" at their base. As a result, the knee pads start falling out after walking a block or two. The knee pads also move around a lot.
A small strip of velcro or similar closure would be nice. Or just a smaller opening.
One very disappointing flaw in what are otherwise a great pair of pants.
