Based on Galco’s popular revolver-only WheelGunner design introduced in 2010, the new Ironhide is made for semiautomatic pistols. Using an innovative belt slide system, the Ironhide can be used for both strongside or crossdraw carry. Fully ambidextrous, the Ironhide also allows carry in four different positions by unsnapping the holster from the belt slide, moving the belt slide to a different location on the belt, reversing the retention strap if needed and reattaching the holster. It secures the pistol with a combination of hand molding and a reversible retention strap with a glove-friendly polymer tab. Release the strap and the pistol is cleared for a fast, smooth draw. The retention strap accommodates both hammer-down and cocked-and-locked carry on 1911-type pistols.

After some tweaking I found this holster to be excellent and versatile. Retaining strap was very difficult to stretch across hammer. The suggestion from Galco was to twist and stretch the strap until it fit. A product should work out of the box and not have to be tweaked. Finally made it fit by soaking in Shoe Stretch, fitting it in position and leaving it there for several hours. Holster is well made and durable.
