The rugged, lightweight Gerber Propel Downrange AO Knife features an easy to carry, ergonomic design and an ultra-durable, S30V steel blade. This knife can handle the rigors of field work and military work and suits survival as well as everyday carry needs. The fold-out, Assisted Opening 2.0 construction, plunge lock and safety ensure maximum handling safety, while making it quick and easy to access from any angle. The full-length blade is half-serrated for slicing through canvas or tough nylon, and can withstand constant abuse in any tactical environment. It also features a black oxide coating, engineered to prevent corrosion and reduce glare in situations that require stealth. The three-way pocket clip adjusts to suit any carrying position and the balanced weight distribution promotes a natural, comfortable grip for safe and precise use.

Quality. Sharp. Very sturdy and tough. A bit stiff, so need to work it a bit prior to carrying. Safety is a bit vague but useful in that if you deploy the safety after knife has been extended, it prevents the release from accidentally being pressed and knife accidentally closed while in use. Also, if safety is on while knife is closed and an attacker somehow gets knife away from you, they will be unable to open knife until they figure it out, providing valuable time. Bottom line is safety is not really needed as knife is stiff enough that there is no way it would accidentally deploy. Overall, well worth the cost, like having a mini-sword in your pocket. Samurai swords only used the last inch or so. Tanto-style on this knife is very effective and functional, can penetrate difficult targets, can cut, can saw and is not likely to break under stress. Also, it's relatively light but sturdy and has an excellent grip that will work even with wet or slippery hands or while wearing gloves. Highly recommended.

Deployment of the knife blade originally shipped was so tight it required two hands to open, and even with two hands, was difficult to open. My attempt to adjust the spring was useless. I sent the knife to the warranty section for Gerber, where I received fantastic service, and a quick response to the issue. A new knife was sent to me, and that knife is everything I loved about my auto, in spite of this being an assisted. The knife, and Gerber service is another reminder why I exclusively use Gerber knives and multi-tools since my days in the service.

I have many Gerber knives. They are high quality and Gerber customer service is great. However the Gerber Propel Downrange AO Knife I received was defective. It was very difficult to open- even with two hands. One hand opening was impossible so I called and asked for an exchange. Unfortunately, the tan color was on indefinite back order so I cancelled the order. On the bright side, the young lady who helped me- Jess- was very helpful and professional.

Good, solid knife. Well built. Fairly sharp out of the box. The opening mechanism loosened up after a few openings and works well now.
