Men's Altama OTB Maritime Assault Low Tactical Reviews, Deals, Problems and Guides

These are my EDC shoes for work or play and now that the outside temps are pegging at 114 I wear them with no socks and in this desert climate of Las Vegas, they work perfectly. No hot spots and the pavement heat which can peg at 150+ is a zero issue.
Now. Just came back from a mini vacation with the dogs to Huntington dog beach in SoCal and they got “maritime” tested. Had to walk through soft sand to out favorite deserted spot and the shoes were okay while picking up sand which is normal. Walked into the surf for some quality fetch time and I could feel the sand starting to build up inside the shoes. The build up rendered the drain holes useless. After 15 minutes I had to take the shoes off because the build up of sand was making them too uncomfortable to wear and extremely heavy. So I tried to rinse out the sand in the surf zone and realized that most of the build up was underneath the insole. So I had to remove them to rinse off most of the sand. I noticed that the shoes weighed what I felt was twice it’s normal weight but no more sand. The problem is when the shoe corduroy fabric is fully soaked the shoes weigh twice and even close to three times more than their normal weight. This was Sat afternoon. The shoes stayed soaked sitting in the back of my suv overnight. They stayed that way throughout the day. We got back to Vegas late that Sun night and still soaked. I had to leave them out in my patio the rest of the night in 95 degree nighttime heat. 8 hrs later in the early morning I checked and they were dry and as I shook and banged them together I still had a bunch of dried beach sand coming out of them. So I learned in this short weekend a bunch of stuff about these shoes in a “ maritime” environment. They are sand and water magnets. If they get soaked in a tropical environment they will not dry anytime soon. Walking around in soaked shoes for any length of time will always lead to serious foot problems. The advantage of the original Chuck Taylors is their more effective drain holes and their thinner, Lightweight canvas material does dry faster although they will deteriorate faster. I hope this helps someone planning to buy these shoes.

I love these shoes, they are super comfortable. The only issue I have is that the vent panel material has holes in them already, after only 1.5months of use. I do work in them, light duty, squatting a lot and that seems to be the stress area. Maybe should be made of a more durable material??

Men's Altama OTB Maritime Assault Low - MultiCam - 9M : A couple things come to mind right off:
1) Somewhere along the way I was under the impression Altama's shoes were made in the USA. This particular shoe isn't.
2) I'm not use to buying shoes or boots in whole sizes only. This particular shoe is only available in whole sizes. I took a chance because I wear a 1/2 size shoe and I ordered up to the next whole size and the fit is good.

What does the guy do that wears a (whole) size since he cant go up to the next 1/2 size? In other words, if I wear a 10 1/2 but I go a half size up to the 11 and it fits me fine, then what does the guy do that wears an 11? Go up a whole size to a 12 ? Hmm.

I haven't really tested the shoe outdoors yet because I wanted to be sure that I was going to keep it. From wearing it a few times inside for most of a day though, it has proven to not rub in any odd way and actually has felt fairly comfortable. The construction seems to be of decent quality and it look like and fits like a Chuck Taylor. I have not experienced the pulling off of socks when removing the shoe like some have mentioned. Maybe it happens when the insoles get wet? I cant say for sure because I have not worn these shoes under any wet conditions.

So, I'm happy with this shoe to date and will definitely plan on wearing it more in the near future. I rated it four stars because of my number 1 & 2 statements above. Hopefully it was worth the money. Time will tell. Based on my short experience with the Altama OTB Maritime Assault Low, I would recommend it.

Finally folded and got a pair. I have a few buddies who have had them for a few months and they swear that they are not Chucks. They look like it and I hate Chucks. Just not comfortable shoes for me. Received the Altamas and put them on immediately. I have to say that for the first hour and a half I was a little worried. No more. Must have just been a break in period. I wear these things everywhere. Been in the Everglades twice and the Atlantic once (still cold). Rinse them out with the hose, let them dry and wear them to work. They are very comfortable and just a do all kinda of shoe. Ordering another pair.

Love these. They are my work shoe. Pretty much entirely standing on / running on concrete surfaces for 5-9 hours at a time. I did switch the insoles out from an old pair of skate shoes I was going to retire because the insoles they have are a sticky rubber (think of what they were designed for...) and would not let go of sock as your putting your foot in. I'm just saving them for when I go kayaking or something. The laces stretch a bit which is nice. Big loop for slipping them on an off is helpful. Material seems to be quality. They look good. I'm going to purchase more of these.

I have 3 pairs of these. Bought MultiCam in regular width. I wear a size 12. They’re a little tight. But not bad. So when I got these black ones I ordered a size 12 Wide. Fits PERFECT. Wore them all day and walked quite a bit. No issues. Felt great. They are designed to be worn without socks people!!!! So anyone that’s griping because they’re tight with socks that would be the reason why. I get compliments on them all the time.

I wear an 8.5 or an 8 wide shoe, ordered this in a 9 and it fits perfectly well. Love the styling of the shoe. The insole is made of a water proof rubber that is soft but grips onto your sock when putting it on. You'll have to really loosen up the laces to get it on, just a heads up not a negative by any means. You know it's a good shoe when the first time my wife sees it she compliments them.

It took about the 1st mile of a much longer walk for the shoes to break in. They were very comfortable during the first mile. However after the 1st mile, the shoes became the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. I usually buy athletic shoes in medium width, hiking boots in wide. As these were designed for water and land use, knowing lots of times I would be wearing sox, I ordered in wide width. Bought a second pair in Coyote color as well.
They are great for walking or hiking and great in the gym. I will try them in the ocean as soon as I get a chance.

I really like the looks of this shoe. It does fit well but I have a middle toe that sticks up so I have to settle my foot in when I first put them on. The sticky interior sole makes this a bit of a challenge, sock or no sock. Once they're on they can be worn all day with great comfort. They are actually a tad more comfortable without socks as they are made to be worn this way, but I worry about funky feet so don't usually do that. You may find the interior sole off-putting but give them a chance. It's really handy when you get your feet wet for any reason. Keeps your foot from sliding around.

If you wear a whole size, go up a full size and wider than you usually wear. I wear size 11 medium in just about every shoe I have. I went up to a 12 and wide in width and they fit perfect. I have wore with socks and they are a little hot, but have also wore without socks and have been in water with them. Your feet won't slide with the grippy rubber insole. Took about a half a day to dry in direct hot sun. Nothing shrunk up, still fit good.
