I have had several pairs of Bates Lites brown and white. The soles are a disgrace to shoes in general. For some reason between 5-10 years the soles will start to disintegrate. They will crack and the entire heal will crumble away in a trail behind you as you walk.
This problem is so prevalent that they warn you about it at the Navy's Department Head Leadership Course, where most of the students have between 9-11 years of service and show up with Bates shoes that are usually near the breaking point. Out of 16 officers in a recent class, 7 of them had to buy new shoes after the first day. I have also seen many other "blowouts" at formal events and ceremonies.
I only purchased another pair of Bates Lites shoes because I needed shoes the next day, but I will never again purchase another Bates product. It is criminal that the Navy exchange does not stock anything but Bates. Any shoe company that has to actually compete for business would not offer such poor quality for such high prices and expect to keep customers. Bates does not care about producing junk because they know US military members don't have many options and have to buy Bates.
The shoes are also not very comfortable. I almost forgot to mention that with how angry I am about being forced in to buying another pair of these terrible shoes. I would give these shoes negative stars if it was possible.

I wear a 9 and 1/2 d but I ordered the 10 D and it fit perfect. But they look great with my service dress whites and they hold up well.

I purchased this shoe (#932) and the heel just rotted out from within and left a large gap in the middle. The material in the heel became like a fine dust. Is there any explanation for this? The fit and appearance was great, I am ordering another pair. Had to bring this to your attention.

These shoes are great, very comfortable! The reason for 4 stars is because they run huge. I normally wear an 8.5-9, depending on brand but these are too big.

They're true to size, and great for the guys acting in them who are running around for a few hours on end! They all comment how comfortable they are.
