Men's TRU-SPEC Poly / Cotton Ripstop BDU Coat Tactical Reviews, Deals, Problems and Guides

I purchased these as an alternative to the Blue BDUs available for the Civil Air Patrol from Vanguard. Those are also Tru-Spec, but they are the “winter-weight” twill blend of fabric. These Poly/Cotton Ripstop are a great “summer weight” alternative. The Navy color is a perfect match for the heavier weight version which is to be expected since it’s the same manufacturer, but I couldn’t be sure they didn’t make a custom dye for Vanguard and CAP. Turns out, the Navy is exactly the same. As an added bonus, they were much cheaper. Not an insignificant consideration when purchasing your own uniforms. Otherwise, they are a standard set of military pattern BDUs with all of the pros and cons associated with them. The material and construction seem consistent and acceptable. These are exactly what I was hoping they would be. If you are a senior member of the Civil Air Patrol and choose to wear the Corporate Uniform over the ugly ABU uniform, this is exactly what you’ve been looking for.

The closest available size to my dimensions, Medium Regular, is still a bit baggy and long in the arms. But that is pretty much how BDU coats tend to be. The next smaller size would likely be a bit tight around the chest, with less room to move around freely without some binding across the shoulders. With the sleeve cuffs buttoned up to the next to last button, these sit fine around my wrists, still allowing me to take the coat on and off without having to unbutton the cuff. All in all I am pleased, but I wish a M/S size existed, but it doesn't, so there is no point complaining about that. The coat appears to be well made, with good stitching, and the cloth looks like it will hold up well to plenty of outdoor adventuring. I much prefer these BDU coats over the later style ACU tops, which just have too much darn Velcro all over them for my liking - and cost quite a bit more than a good ol' BDU coat anyway. The price on these was very reasonable for what you get.

Ready for fall with this coat. Great durability. It takes a real beating. Went thru 3 days of land clearing, cutting, chipping. Pockets stayed closed. Stayed light, even when wet.

I like the quality of the clothing, the multi-pocketed shirts and pants.
