The boonie hat was introduced to the United States Armed Forces during the Vietnam War, when U.S. Army Green Berets began wearing them in the field, along with Australian and Army of the Republic of Vietnam units. These hats were locally procured; the camo cloth was usually salvaged from other uniform items or with the former from a parachute or made up by the tailor. The name is derived from "boonie", the abbreviated form of boondocks (itself originally American military slang derived from Tagalog bundok, "mountain", during the Philippine-American War. Made to current U.S. military specs.

Good product, in near perfect condition after about six months.
One thing i don't like personally is the super wide brim, but that's not a real issue, and depends on the wearer's preference.
It seems to run big (I got a Propper 7.5 boonie and it was much smaller than the 7.5 Tru-Spec boonie) so you might consider going down a size.
One more note: it's not MARPAT! This is AOR-1, which is similar, but not the same. So if you're an airsofter like me and looking to complete a load out, this won't perfectly match up. However, it's by and large the easiest USMC style boonie to get and good quality. Would buy again.
Shipped within a day and a half, arrived in two more days. Faster than the prime order I made that same day. Kudos to TG!

1) the webbing is attached a full inch above the brim, which is unusual for a boonie hat and I don't like that. And the webbing is a bit crooked, which doesn't matter in the field, but it still annoys me.
2) the brim falls short of 3", I measured it at 2 7/8". IMHO, wider brims are better on boonies because they shield you against more rain and sun and they look better that way.
3) it came with a plastic, spring loaded cord lock on the chin strap, instead of the leather one in the picture, and I like it better this way because it has a stronger grip on the cord. But it'll slide right off while you're adjusting it if you're not careful, whereas a leather one wouldn't.
Overall, the quality of this hat is a step below my USMC boonie.

I bought this tru-spec boonie because I like the tru-spec product and I bought this one for the wide brim for protection from the Sun out here in Arizona. I prefer the old style with the leather cinching on the chin strap instead of the plastic one which comes off and I don't like it. Only true spec Boonies have the map pocket inside the Hat which is handy and provides another layer of protection

I am normally a 6 7/8 hat size and this hat at size 7 was a little tight.

This is a well constructed hat. The fabric is of good quality and it fits very well. The pattern blend in well for the environment that in using it in and I would recommend this product to anyone.

Tru-Spec has made a great hate. The wide brim helps when a contractor cap isn't enough. I also wear a skull cap or an bandana for excess sweating. This fits over them perfectly.

Hat does it’s job out in the sun, is made with a real high quality material, and looks good. The size was a little small, ordered the larger size, but it’s still a little tight.

Have bought two other Tru-Spec boonie hats. They fit me great and provide the protection I was looking for. Great price and great service.

Tru-Spec makes great boonie hats and the wide brim versions are my favorite. This site is a great place to buy from.

Hat is what I was looking for, do wish the strap had a leather pull, rather than the plastic!
